April Lockhart

April Lockhart is a born July 4th April, 1995. When she was in the 7th grade she began taking guitar lessons and piano lessons. This ignited her passion for songwriting. April's very first song was called Different which she composed at 12 years of age. When April was 14 years old, she devoted the majority of her time creating song ideas and perfecting her music. Soon after, April started traveling with her father as well as write her songs in NY or LA. April started to include other subjects in the book, Take My Hand, for those of her peers who struggled in the face of peer pressure, disability or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart works in partnerships at popular clean beauty brand Ilia and is also a lifestyle blogger with a huge following of her own. Her disability is a part of her personality, but it is not the whole of the picture. Lockhart doesn't deny her disability on her Instagram account, but she doesn't make it the focus of her story. It's a message. The message is: We all have many identities, we're far more complicated than we believe we are. Lockhart states in the video Lockhart via video "I am not convinced that my physical appearance will define my character. It's not my intention to influence disability, because I've many more things to contribute." It doesn't impact my daily life. I still do all my normal activities and I've adapted to my disabilities. However, it's a component of me, so I believe it's essential to discuss. Lockhart encourages us to keep moving forward with self-acceptance. Still, she acknowledges going through periods of feeling insecure about her physique and being uncomfortable in certain clothes that exposed her arms. Nowadays, she can wear whatever she'd like. And she posts her photos on social networks. The self-love she talks about is a journey. It's hard to say if you'll ever reach the point of no return. This is a process, and I don't think you ever reach your destination. It is important to have people around you who are aware of and appreciate the way you feel. They will be the ones to ask your: What are you think about?
